RULES & REGULATIONS

1. ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to violin, viola, violoncello and double bass players.
  • Participants must enter the correct division for their age or grade.

2. ENTRY FEE

  • A non-refundable administrative fee of R100 per entry applies.
  • Sponsored entries may be available through Institutional
    Affiliates.

3. ENTRY DEADLINE

  • Entries open on
    1 JUNE 2026.
  • Entries close on
    15 JULY 2026 at 23:59 CAT.
  • Late entries will not be accepted.

4. REPERTOIRE

  • Perform Elements 1-8 in the prescribed order from the official syllabus.
  • All printed bowings, articulations, rhythms, dynamics and tempo markings must be observed.
  • Fingerings are at the discretion of the participant.

5. VIDEO RECORDING

  • Record Elements 1-8 in one continuous take.
    No cuts or edits.
  • You and your instrument must be clearly visible at all times.
  • No audio or video editing, splicing, overdubbing or enhancement.

6. CREATIVITY ELEMENT

  • Create an original interpretation of the prescribed C Major scale
  • Anything goes!
  • Record separately.
  • Maximum duration:
    1 minute.

7. YOUTUBE UPLOADS

  • Upload all videos to YouTube as UNLISTED.
    Public or private links are not allowed.
  • Use the required naming format:
    NameSumame_Division
    (e.g. JaneSmith_D1_Scales)

8. ENTRY SUBMISSION

  • Submit the YouTube links via the official online entry form.
  • Email proof of
    payment (POP) and
    signed Declaration
    Form to
    entries@sastrings.co.za
  • Incomplete entries may be disqualified.

9. ADJUDICATION

  • All entries are scored by the full adjudication panel.
  • Performances are judged on three categories.
  • Tone Quality & Intonation
  • Coordination & Rhythmic Stability
  • Musicality

10. CONDUCT

  • By entering, participants agree to abide by these rules and the decisions of the organisers.
  • Any form of dishonesty or rule violation may result in disqualification.

11. RIGHTS & PERMISSIONS

  • By entering, participants grant SASF permission to use submitted recordings, names and images for promotional and archival purposes.

12. GENERAL

  • The organisers reserve the right to make changes where necessary.
  • All adjudication decisions are final.
